How Much Does a Website Cost to Build with Lambda Services?

With a wide range of variables, pricing our websites can be a tricky business, that's why we have taken the time to pull back the curtain and break down the key components that influence pricing the most below.

Our web builds can start from as little as £750 for simple, effective builds up to £20,000+ for highly complex sites with tricky integrations and functionalities that are sure to streamline your business operations while making the process as smooth as butter for your customers.

1. Type and Complexity of Website

The kind of website you need is the single biggest factor in determining cost.

  • Brochure / Lead Generation / Signposting Website: A basic site to showcase your services or products, usually 3–8 pages. Ideal for small businesses or start-ups.
  • E-commerce Website: An online store with product listings, payment integration, and customer management.
  • Custom Web Applications: Complex platforms such as booking systems, portals, or membership sites.

This is one area where size does matter; consider how many core pages you would like in your website, this includes product pages and collections, more pages means more costs to build. We like to grow and scale our services with our clients, that’s why we sometimes split projects into stages/phases to spread costs out. For example, sorting pages you would like into baskets of urgency - what do you need to get your site live? What features or pages are ‘nice to have’ vs. necessities.

Costs range: From as little as £500 for a simple brochure site to £20,000+ for a bespoke, feature-rich platform.

2. Platform Selection

The platform your website is built upon is possibly one of the most important decisions; not only will it define the core functionality of your site, but platforms also vary greatly in pricing, particularly on-going fees:

  • Shopify: As a proud Shopify partner with plenty of builds under our belt on this platform, this is our primary platform for any ecommerce build we create. With robust hosting, top notch security, excellent product management system and reasonable pricing, it’s a sure fire choice for peace of mind. With monthly and yearly pricing (at a 25% saving at time of writing), the most affordable ‘Basic’ plan is only £25 per month (£19pm if paid yearly).
  • Brands on Shopify include brands like Kylie Cosmetics, fitness apparel company Gymshark, and even major food brands like Heinz.
  • Squarespace: Operating as a Silver partner with Squarespace, if you are looking for a platform for lead generation, we can’t recommend them enough; with a heavy lean towards highly flexible design you can let the creative juices flow. Including reliable hosting, highly customisable design and brilliant pricing, this platform is guaranteed to make your site stand out. Squarespace also has monthly and yearly pricing (between 18% - 25% depending on the plan), you can get up and running with a ‘Personal’ plan from just £16 per month (£12pm if paid yearly).
  • Brands on Squarespace include Glossier, HBO, Wired, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), and Lyft Design.

Choosing a platform for your website can be a daunting task and that’s where we come in, with access to exclusive discounts and years of experience in web development, we can rest assured that we will guide you to the best solution at the best price.

Considerations: Website purpose, security required, budget.

3. Functionality and Features

The more interactive or advanced the features, the more complex the build. Popular features include:

  • Unique contact or enquiry forms
  • Booking or appointment systems
  • Integrations with CRM systems (e.g. CRMs, mailing lists)
  • Secure login and user accounts / Members areas
  • E-commerce checkout and payment integration - if you use a third party payment gateway, make sure to include this in your brief
  • Live chat, maps, or third-party applications

Each additional feature adds development hours and testing, affecting the budget.

4. Content Creation

Content is crucial – and not just for aesthetics. Strong copy and media help convert visitors into customers as well as get you on Google and Bing’s front page.

  • Copywriting: Professionally written content tailored to your audience.
  • Imagery and Video: High-quality photography or video production.
  • Search Engine Optimisation (SEO): Content written and structured to improve visibility on Google.
  • Custom graphics work; reworking your designs for web suitability can add costs you might not have expected; this gives two options,  budget for the additional design time or look into preparing branding assets ahead of time.
  • Pre-prepared assets; having design assets ready to roll is a huge boon to the web design process and can save you additional costs in design time to rework artwork to suit web pages.

If you provide your own content, costs remain lower. If you need help creating it, we would be delighted to offer this as an add-on service.

5. Domain and Hosting

To go live, your website will need a domain name and a hosting package.

  • Domain: Typically £10–£30 per year.
  • Hosting: Can range from £10/month for basic shared hosting to £100+/month for premium, high-traffic solutions - luckily, the platforms we partner with include hosting in their plans so one less thing to think about.

At Lambda Services, we want to make costing as simple as possible - another reason why we work with our chosen platforms - we can also assist with the technical upkeep of your domain, SSL certificates and more.

6. Content Management System (CMS) vs Custom Development

We build on platforms like Shopify, or Squarespace – which are cost-effective and user-friendly – or the alternative is to create a fully custom site from scratch.

  • CMS builds are quicker and more affordable.
  • Custom code allows for complete customisation and flexibility but takes more time, skill and most importantly money.

We'll help you choose the right approach based on your goals and budget.

7. Ongoing Maintenance and Support

Every website needs updates, backups, and security checks. We offer flexible maintenance packages that can include:

  • Bug fixes and plugin updates
  • Security monitoring
  • Technical support
  • Performance optimisation

Typical cost: £50–£500/month depending on the size and complexity of your website.

8. Who’s Building It

Pricing also depends on the team behind your website. At Lambda Services, we provide the structure, experience, and accountability of an agency, but with a flexible and personal approach.

  • Freelancers may offer cheaper builds, but often lack long-term support.
  • In-house teams can be costly to maintain.

We provide an efficient balance of quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

9. SEO and Marketing Integration

Getting found online is just as important as having a good-looking site.Your website is your new storefront of the 21st century, it’s no use having an incredible product or service and no one to see it in all its glory!

  • On-page SEO setup - we include basic SEO practice in our builds as we go but can also offer a dedicated SEO service to get you ranking on search engines faster.
  • Analytics and tracking - as an additional service, we can include weekly, monthly or yearly reporting as well as hands-on sessions to review your statistics, align your goals and set you off in the right direction.
  • Integration with Google, email marketing, or advertising tools - get up and running in no time. We will work with you to implement (and help source where needed) any tools you need to get going with your new build.

These services can be built in from the start or added later as part of a digital marketing strategy.

10. Timeline and Urgency

If you’re working to a tight deadline, this can increase the cost. Urgent or fast-tracked projects may require additional resource allocation as well as pausing other activities to make time for your requirements.

We always aim to deliver on time and on budget however we always suggest having at least a 2 or 3 month notice before a site needs to be launched – and we’ll discuss realistic timeframes during the proposal stage.
